Current Program Studies 2009-2010

 

The current program for Baltimore County calls for:

Action on Housing positions

Action on Transportation positions

Alternatives to the War on Drugs Position (adopted in 2005) recommend that the LWVMD adopt this as a state study at the 2009 LWVMD Convention

Baltimore County Human Relations Commission: form an ad hoc committee to look at the effectiveness of the commission

Education: review Education positions taken before December 2008

Source Reduction and Recycling: expand Natural Resources Committee and advocate for comprehensive, county-wide recycling, including businesses, apartments and condominiums

 

The current program for the LWVMD (2009-1010):

Administration of Justice - An update and new study of the selection of judges, retention of election judges, public financing of judicial campaigns, the financing of the judiciary and the election of administrative offices related to the judiciary. This work will utilize the resources of the LWVUS Judicial Independence Project.

English Language Instruction - A new study of English language services for immigrants and illiterate adults in the state. The first phase of the study will focus on servicesfor people for whom English is the second language and present a concurrence or consensus questions with the LWVUS study of immigration. The second phase of the study will focus on services for adults who speak English as their first language but lack skills in reading or writing English.
